Dame Jennifer Smith
Dame Jennifer Smith was the Premier of Bermuda from 1998 to 2003. She was the first female leader of the Progressive Labour Party and the first Bermuda Premier not part of the United Bermuda Party.
Dame Jennifer served on the Senate of Bermuda from 1980 to 1989. After serving as Premier, she became the first female Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly in 2003. In 2010, she was sworn in as Minister of Education.
Prior to joining elective politics, Dame Jennifer was a political reporter and editor for the Bermuda Recorder newspaper. She is a member of the Council of Women World Leaders and was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2005.
